Is this real? Well, fuck. :| I’m sorry Katie, but I just honestly can’t agree with this at all.
I didn’t ask you to :( you’re entitled to your own opinion. However, it’s pretty obvious though that this is a pretty clear example of infringement on freedom of religion.
But it’s not. They’re only mandating places that have religious affiliation, who could employ people who don’t follow that faith. Why can’t they be offered birth control if they don’t follow the Catholic faith?
It’s “faith-based entities”, places like religious universities and hospitals. Pretty much institutions that are supported and work with the Catholic Church
And it’s requiring the organization to provide them free birth control through the insurance.
The government is basically forcing them to do something that is strictly against their religious doctrine and their moral standpoint. Everyone wants church out of the government, but they don’t care if government gets involved with the church. It’s a private organization and it doesn’t stop people from getting birth control (I mean, clinics make birth control very affordable and there are always condoms or abstinance).
It isn’t like the Catholic Church’s standpoint on birth control is a giant secret.
If the pill is used for sex, it’s pretty much an elective pill to take. There are always other options besides it, and as someone who uses b.c. for health reasons and still has to pay for it, I don’t see why someone who is using it for a hook up should get it for free when I have a serious medical need for it.
Overall, this shoudn’t be happening at all. It’s a constitutional right to practice freedom of religion, and if a faith-based entity chooses to adopt that view in a public setting, then it really is not any business of the government to tell them what to do. If you don’t support it, go work somewhere else. No one is forcing anyone to work for one of the organizations (and honestly, I haven’t heard of a lot of non-Catholics applying to work for Catholic groups).
This isn’t just Christians & Catholics. The Jewish community and other religious leaders are behind this as well.
